The Founder - Scott Bushey

Raised by a single parent, Scott A. Bushey was encouraged early in life by his entrepreneurial mother to find success in business. And in 1985, with the intention of paying his way through college, Scott wrote his first business plan. The result, born from the keys of IBM’s, Personal Selectric Typewriter, turned into a vision of what today is Solarius Spa.

The concept of “tanning,” widely unheard of at the time, was ignited by a growing interest in using light based machines to obtain a tan. New to the marketplace, it was difficult to call sun tanning an industry, let alone provide tanning treatments as a retail service, which at best, seemed a fad.

However, despite his youth, Scott had a vision, and with seventy six cents in his pocket, took his plan to the bank. With a firm hand shake and a pat on the back, the bank secured 100% of Scott’s start-up capital, sending him down a road of success he could not have imagined at the early age of 20.

Since that beginning, Scott has assisted and educated the tanning industry in many ways:

• As an Executive Advisor to the Smart Tan Network
• Guest Speaker at Five International Tanning Association Conferences (ITA) 1999-2004
• Published editorials in Tanning Trends magazine
• Interviewed as an “industry expert” on radio, television, industry magazines and newspaper

In addition, Scott has been a leader in the community. Has served as Vice-President, President and Chairman for the Executive Association of Greater Albuquerque (EAGA), Member to the Board of Sixteen:Fifteen, an international missions organization, and provided entrepreneurial leadership presentations for the University of New Mexico, and Albuquerque Public Schools.

With a passion to lead, and a personal commitment to God, family, and humanity, Scott’s focus is to develop and grow the concept of Solarius Spa.

He lives in Albuquerque, NM with his wife of 18 years, Bonnie, and their two sons, Jake and Luke.
